For information officers

Nothing puts pure pressure on a communication officer like a breaking story (good or bad) involving his or her organization. The communication officer must support his or her scientists and engineers to get the story right, quickly, while also attending to the needs of the media. The AfriSMC, which works to improve the quality, depth and breadth of coverage of science issues in the African media, is here to help. It is a neutral and independent platform where scientists can speak out to the media alongside other scientists, who may or may not have differing views.

We can also help you develop professionally by connecting you to our credible affiliate institutions offering some professional development opportunities such as seminars, workshops and mentorship in communication skills. The center will also publish useful communication skills guides and toolkits that you may tap into. And for the experienced communication officer, here is an opportunity for you to develop others as well.
